I invited readers awhile back to ask me anything they would like to know more about whether it's me, my life, or just a general question. It wasn't a very popular post since only two questions were asked, but I guess that makes it a little easier on my part, right? :)
This question comes from Bethany who blogs over at
Pitter and Glink. She asked,
" If you could have any designer make over a room in your house, who would it be and why would you choose that person? Or would you even want a designer to makeover a room in your house since you're so talented? ;)"
YES!! Please send me a talented designer!! I have a few designers that I love equally, and let me point out they are all HGTV designers. I am sure there are fabulous designers out there that are not linked to HGTV, so please share with me some of your favorites! I'd love to know them.
The first one is Genevieve Gorder. I like her not because she's on Design Star or has a popular TV show on HGTV, but because she truly is down-to-earth. I know this because I met her, and let's just say I was the awkward one. Go figure. She's truly a doll. Not only is her personality great, but her design aesthetic is incredible too. There isn't a room she has decorated that I have not liked. She tends to decorate with a neutral palette and adds pops of color throughout, which I like. She's also known for having an accent wall. As some of you may know, I love accent walls!
My second favorite is Candice Olson, and once again, she isn't my favorite because of Design Star. I like that I can look at room and know that it was designed by Candice. She has a distinct style as well. Her style seems to be comfortable with a mix of glam. Her designs are practical, yet they make you feel like you're in a million dollar home. She can make a room feel luxurious without it feeling gaudy or ostentatious. I just love her. Did you hear that Candice? I love you.
One designer I would have liked to see more of - Brittany Simon from Design Star. She is a bold designer. I love bold prints and colors, but sometimes I have a hard time actually incorporating them into my home. It was fun to watch her design because she took the risk no matter what, so there was no heartache on my side. I just got to watch the fun and wish I had the guts and talent like she has. :)
I would also like to add
Sarah Richardson, but I haven't seen her show. In just the few photos I have seen online, she seems like a real contender with a style that I like.
I currently do not have have cable TV, so I miss out on a lot of the great shows on HGTV. It's ridiculous when I go on vacation because if there's a TV with cable, I tend to spend most of my time watching HGTV. ha! Once when Matt was working in DC, I visited him during one of my school breaks (pre baby), and I spent my entire five days there glued to the tube. It was sick. What a waste of probation. Their shows have me hooked.
Do you have a favorite designer? How about a designer that is not on HGTV?
I also love Candice Olsen and Sarah Richardson. Did you know that most of the HGTV shows are actually available for free on their website? (at least the Canadian ones) just go to their main site and click "video" or go here: http://www.hgtv.ca/video/#video
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!
Sarah
Seriously?! Genevieve and Candice are my favorites as well! They have the best style.
ReplyDeleteGreat picks! Candace and Sarah are two of my favorites ( and Canadian too!) also really like Genevieve's style. Samantha Pynn is one of my favorite designers too. You can also find her on HGTV Canada....hopefully she will cross into the US television one day!
ReplyDeleteYou named two of my favorites. Candice is so practical with elegance and luxury thrown in! There are some designers who are so cheap and impractical. And I have loved Genevieve since she put grass on the floor of a Trading Spaces bedroom redo. She seems so sweet. BTW I like the fuzzy designs on the wall and floors. He he.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great list. ANd eye candy. I'm loving these rooms they've put together! I wish I had a favorite designer. I've not really seen anyone who fits my exact style, but I also don't have cable, so I miss out on the lovely HGTV. When I go to friends' houses I always ask to put it on. They think I'm crazy, but I crave it!
