Tell us a little bit about yourself.

At PoppySeed Fabrics, addiction to fabrics is a understatement, we LOVE fabric and can't keep our hands off the best stuff! We carry a wide variety of fabrics from many of the most popular designers including Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, Patty Young, Riley Blake, just to name a few. We carry Japanese imports including Echino Nico, Kokka, and many novelty/anime prints. You'll find patterns, trims, pre-cuts, minky, knits, flannel, and rose cuddle in our shop as well. We are a family run business and work very hard to bring excellent customer service, same day shipping and the best selection of modern fabric.
We love our customers, especially those that return!!!

We are originally from Hawaii, the island of Oahu, Kaneohe to be specific. We have been living in Las Vegas for the past 4.5 yrs. It's a big change from living 15 min from the beach to now living more than 4 hours. But we make this up by getting in many road trips to Utah to visit our closest relatives.

We have been selling fabric on Etsy for almost 2 yrs and have loved every min of it. We also have a handmade shop which was opened first called Cuddle With Aloha, www.etsy.com/shop/cuddlewithaloha when we have the time to sew and sell we post items there.

We love what we do, especially that it allows us to be with our family, raise our kid and work together. We hope you stop on by, pick up some fabric and become our forever customers. :)

Were there any challenging obstacles you had to overcome to get started?

Our biggest challenge when starting our business was to figure out which fabric selection to carry in our shoppe. We knew we couldn't carry everything since there are so many awesome designers, fabrics and styles to choose from. We hope our customers enjoy our choices and find what there looking for.

Where does your inspiration come from?
I love everything modern! Seeing modern fabric being used to create modern designs especially on quilts inspire me. Quilting is a new found love, and being able to see more talented quilters create a modern design from fabrics I love it. It just makes my creative juices flow.
Deceased or living, whose studio would you raid?
Wow! I would have to say Amy Butler. She is so talented and was actually one of our first designers of fabrics we started to carry. All because of her full moon polka dots from her lotus collection that made me fall in love.

What do you like to do outside of work?

  When were not working, we love hanging out as a family. We have a 3 yr. old and she keeps us really busy. We currently reside in Nevada, but are from Hawaii so heading to the beach soaking up the sun is what would take all my time.

What is success to you?

Being successful is not measured by what you have, but who you have to spend it with. Working this business as a family is everything, our success is based off of our combined work and were loving every min of it.

Where would you like to be in the next decade?
This is a fun question, hmm as a business we would love to be expanded so big we would need to employ more family members. Since this is a family business our love for fabric and creating runs deep. Being able to continue to do something we love will be a great blessing.

Fat quarters used in my project were c/o Poppy Seed Fabrics, and that did not influence my opinion of the shop.  What I typed was truly my opinion and experience with their fabrics.

Anna Maria Horner's Toddler Pants

Poppy Seed Fabrics sent me a few fat quarters to play around with.

They are a cute little Etsy shop that offers an array of fabrics.

Boy was I excited!

I knew immediately when I saw them that I wanted to make Owen some pants.   I checked out Anna Maria Horner's book handmade Beginnings from my local library, and I quickly made her Quick Change Trousers.  I just L.O.V.E. them!  I have four pants in two.  My kind of pattern!  Plus, I can take the skills I learned from Anna and apply them to make up a pair on my own.

Okay, how stinkin' cute are these??  How could I pass up on this?  Clearly, I couldn't.

I will not get into the tutorial side of making these pants because you can check out the book, and read her instructions.  I didn't change much, except adding a placket on one pair. 

I knew I wanted a white (gasp! or stupid me) pair of pants for Owen.  The colors of the fabrics that were sent to me would really pop well against a white background.  I also wanted to use my chartreuse polka dot fabric because that fabric had been sitting in my closet for over a year now.  Plus, how many chartreuse articles of clothing do you see for young people?  (Some of you may be thinking, "There's a reason why Nancy," but I really like the color.  lol)  So I will let you decide if my pants are Anna Maria Horner quality.  I think they are.

Fat quarter quilt ~ Perfect for little ones!  I like the simplicity of it, and how it would be easy to sew fat quarters together to recreate this piece.

Moxy Ideas

I love circles, and I love this quilt by The Purl Bee.

This quilt involves sewing strips of fabric together, so you can really customize the look of this piece.  I really like the color combination too.

Fat Quarter Projects ~ Day 2

Here is a selection of items for your home you can do with fat quarters.

Shelley, from The House of Smiths, shows you how to make a fat quarter pillow.

How cute is this?

Take a look at the design potential for this next picture.  (No offense to chicken lovers.   I raise chickens and love 'em, but that's another story.)  This pillow comes with a tutorial, so swap out that country fabric for something modern, and you could have a totally cool pillow.   :)

Here's a tufted pillow from a stitch in dye. 

Shivaya Naturals uses two fat quarters to make a rice pillow and eye pillow.  

This pillow has a lot of potential.  You could use different fabrics (especially great for fat quarters!) to give the pillow more contrast or add in different textures for more depth.  Overall, this is a fabulous pillow.

This is a really cute table runner.  I think I just might need to make one for my bare table.

My potholders get dirty, grungy, and holey (is that even a word??) quicker than I can burn toast.  I like this idea because I can swap them out during different seasons.  You can see the tutorial here.
