Fat Quarter Hexagon Clock || Tutorial

I was very fortunate to participate in U Create's Fat Quarter Series last month.  Today, I am sharing with you my DIY Hexagon Clock tutorial that uses only ONE fat quarter!

Did you know hexagons are the new chevrons?  Well, this timeless shape is used all the time in the quilting world, but hexagons are making their way into home decor.

I am sharing with you a different way to use a fat quarter, and how you can incorporate this trendy design into your space.  This project caters to those who hate to sew, are intimated to sew, or just do not have the money or space to acquire sewing tools.

This project can be made to look sophisticated, even minimalistic, or it can be fun and whimsical.  There can be many different variations whether it's the size of the hexagons, the amount of hexagons used, or the fabric itself that is being used.  Each variation can create a new look.

Rose Bowl Flea Market

Wow.  This flea rocks.  Of course, there were some junky areas, but overall, I really wish I had a U-Haul to take back to North Carolina.  Raleigh, NC's flea market is pretty big too, but the Rose Bowl, which only happens once a month in Pasadena, CA, is at least 3 times the size of Raleigh's market.

I started out a little late getting there around 9:30 a.m.  There were lots of clothes, antiques, new items, home accessories, and of course, vintage items and collectibles.

I thought this art could be a fun DIY project.

I was drawn to this X for some reason.

I really, really wanted one of these signs, but they were so heavy and cost a little more than what I was willing to pay.

Old children's books turned into art.

For some reason I wanted this picture.  It was only $10 too, but I was afraid I was going to dislike it once I brought it home.

Lots of hardware.

Book page blocks.  I was going to buy a few these to go on a bookshelf, but I opted out.  I thought maybe the print was too small for guests to see, so it might come across as just a large black rectangle when looking at them across the room.

I should have taken a lot of up close photos of the items in this booth.  This was probably my favorite booth there.  Lots of fantastic vintage items.  I was particularly drawn to the Borden milk box and old metal canisters.

Um, how cool is that fan?

The funny thing about this post is I forgot to take photos of the things I bought.  I didn't buy much.  Okay, I only bought two items.  A sign that said "N St" and a small brass pig.  Yeah, I am shocked too.    I walked in there with the idea to spend some money on some items for our home back in NC but the nagging reality of having to make sure it fits in our car was in the back of my head the whole time.  So if you are ever in the Pasadena area during flea market time, go check it out!  But remember there is barely any shade, and this flea goes on and on and on.  There's lots to see!

Have a great weekend!  I am spending the weekend with Grandma from OR, and we are taking Owen to Sea World today.  Yippee!

NY Beauty Circle of Flying Geese Block

This block has been quite the adventure, and I became very close with my seam ripper.  Ha!  I bought the NY Beauty Circle of Flying Geese pattern at Craftsy.  The pattern is by Janice of Better off Thread.  I do not recommend this pattern for beginners.  It is paper pieced, and there are curves.   But if you are an adventurous beginner, you might enjoy this pattern!  It is definitely worth it.   Just look at it!

You may have remember that my first block started out like this.  I decided to switch the colors, and I think I made the right choice.  I still have this block, so I might incorporate it into something else.

There were a few hiccups along the way.  One of them being my fault.  For the life of me, I do not how I was a 1/4" short on one block.  Really, I don't.  So I did something that I would NEVER recommend doing, but since this block is staying with me and not going to a customer, I shortened my seams to 1/8" on just one of the four blocks.  A total butt for sure.  It was a disaster.  But it worked, and I am happy again.

I do have plans for this piece.  It will be used as the center of my medallion quilt, which is not even planned out.  I don't even have fabrics pulled for this quilt, but I figure a plan-as-you-go approach will work nicely.
